The show
Here’s the show that got bumped from last week’s newsletter by “S-Town”: The WNYC podcast “Note to Self,” hosted by Manoush Zomorodi. It bills itself as “the tech show about being human.” At least for me, “Note to Self” has a knack for tackling complicated tech topics in brief and easily accessible — but also deep and carefully reported — ways. And when Zomorodi is skeptical about something, she doesn’t let her subjects off the hook.
The episode
Case in point is a provocative episode from last year: “When Silicon Valley Takes on Elementary School,” an episode that you should check out even if you don’t live in Silicon Valley (I do) or have kids (I don’t). It highlights and challenges a private school called AltSchool, which wants to reinvent education while also making money for its techie founders and venture capitalist investors.
How to listen
You can stream “Note to Self” on WNYC’s website or subscribe to it on iTunes, Stitcher, TuneIn or Google Play.
